How old before a baby duck can oil itself.?
I have baby ducks and I was wondering how old they are before they can oil themselves. I would like to put them in a pool to swim but do not want to unless they are oiled so that they don't get to cold.
The oil gland in ducks will start working as soon as it has been placed in the water. They will know how to swim. Just put a ramp into the kiddie pool and make sure you watch them in case they can't get out. What you can do also is boil a large pot of water and add it with the cold to make it warm for them to swim in. Or while they are young you can just let them swim in the bath tub full of room temperature/warm water. It is soooo cute to watch them swim! Have fun!
