Why do porcelain light fixture "knocks outs" shatter the entire fixture when struck?
I'm trying to install a simple bare-bulb utility-light made of out porcelain, but twice now I've gone to strike out the knocks outs, once with a screwdriver and once with a hammer and nail and both times I shattered the fixture. How are you supposed to do it. I'm down around $10 now for a darn attic light.
Yes, the second smaller diameter set of screw slots are closed with what the package calls "knock outs". They didn't have any other style except the plastic model.
I know what you mean. You dont need to strike em hard just keep tapping with a screwdriver then grind it out when you make a crack or hole. Make sure not to overtighten the screws or you will also crack the fixture. And I mean dont tighten til it stops only tighten til the light doesnt wiggle much.
