how to you make toddler bedding?

i'm looking to make toddler bedding for my daughter..mainly the bedskirt and comforter..how do i do that?

The easiest would be to buy a pattern and just follow the directions. These are pretty basic pieces however that, if you have any sewing experience, you could probably manage.

A bedskirt is basically the four pieces that hang down each side of the bed attached to piece of fabric the size of the mattress - so use any kind of cotton, even an old sheet, and cut a piece the size of the mattress with a 5/8 inch seam allowance. Then measure from the bottom of the mattress down to the floor for the height of your 4 pieces and lengthwise along the side of the bed for how wide they should be (add seam allowances to both measurments). Cut the 4 pieces from the decorative fabric that you've chosen. Then sew the 4 pieces on the corresponding sides of the larger piece and finish the edges. Don't sew the 4 pieces to each other as they will have to be able to slip around the bed frame. Your finished bedskirt should be the shape of a cross.

For a comforter you would make it much like you would finish a quilt. First figure out what your dimensions need to be and cut 2 pieces of fabric, one for the top and one for the bottom, adding in seam allowances on all sides. Figure out what you want for padding... quilt batting, down filling, etc. and either layer the pieces (batting) or sew your two layers together almost all the way and stuff (down filling). You can then put ties through the 3 layers every so often to keep them together or you can machine quilt them (even simple straight sewing will keep it stable). That's about it!

If you really have no experience sewing you may want to recruit someone else who does to help you. It is an easy project if you are experienced but may be overwhelming if it is your first project or if you haven't sewn in a long time.
